MING TO QING DYNASTY, WITH MEIJI-PERIOD LACQUER BASE
HEIGHT (INCLUDING BASE): 9.9CM
The small ying limestone rock has a jagged surface and various crevasses covering
the stone. The shape of the stone is of a bold overhang which tapers down to a thin
point and mounted on a Japanese tri-coloured lacquered stand.
The interior of the Japanese wooden covered box reveals a poem written by its
previous owner, Nagao Uzan (1864-1942), which can be transcribed as:
Yingde rock dotted with dimples and depressions
Your beauty yet surpasses Lingbi.
Outstanding among even the selected few,
Indeed how precious!
Thoughts from the Gentleman of Yushan.
